Insect Ceramics

Insect Ceramics

I’ve been undertaking some insect ceramics of late. I’ve always been interested in ceramics. I used to enjoy making ceramic owls having particuarly always admired Picasso’s ceramic owls. I hope to return to this in earnest some day but for now this was undertaken simply as an ‘inkart’ glazing on a biscuit fired teapot. Then […]

Snow Leopard

These amazing creatures deserve artistic respect. This ink and watercolour sketch was undertaken for a friend who is a great cat lover. In this case a departure from my usual insect or dog obsession. For more information on the protection and conservation of these magnificent cats visit The World Wildlife Fund UK Snow Leopard Page

Invincible Koi

These koi carp have been painted for my friend in response to a series of devastating heron attacks on his fish. Pen, ink and watercolour fish have natural immunity against heron attack – and are heron friendly to boot!

A dog portrait

After somewhat of a hiatus in drawing, I’m returning here with a brief sketch of my friend’s dog. A beautiful lurcher. Below is a time-lapse of the making. More to follow soon hopefully….

Window repair

By demand I’ve been requested to put this video up again. Somewhat unrelated to the pen and ink world but nevertheless hopefully entertaining – it’s me reglazing a window repair undertaken by my dear friend, raconteur and artist in his own right – Roger Sinden. Music by our old band “Neotopia” – Carolina Howells on […]

Butterfly Art

My friend Richard has done some fine work here: “Unique and thoughtful, hand crafted in Holland, made with love & not available anywhere else in the world. A design library of Giclee print, butterflies. Bigger, brighter and stronger than real specimens. 100% Vegetarian friendly. Photo-realistic and 3d.” The Butterfly Art Shop

Phototherapy for an Artist

Ok this is a bit of an aside from the pen and ink world, but on an artistic journey I thought it worth some merit to talk about how the Fuji X-Pro has re-energized my interest in photography. For me, this camera has been long awaited. I was one of the first buyers in the […]

Tenbury Wells Apple Fest

Here’s my contribution for the local Apple Festival! A brief illustrated tour of the apple fruiting cycle. I’m always keen to emphasise the role of the insect. Without the insect pollinators there would be fewer apples. The apple is a great fruit and the many historic and ancient varieties bear testimony to the significant (and […]

Flesh Fly on stones, River Onny.

Flesh Fly on stones, River Onny.

The flesh fly here was a sluggish fly, basking on the stones in the sun on the dried river bed of the Onny. I took a break from fishing to note and sketch this fly. Undertaken with watercolour, pen and ink, ink washes, gold and silver.
